732, il succéda à son oncle Smbat VI, mais très vite, il dut faire face aux fils de Smbat VI et aux frères Davith et Grigor Mamikonian qui revendiquaient la prééminence en Arménie.
748, il fit exécuter Davith Mamikonian, mais il fut aveuglé par le frère de Davith, Grigor.
750, son titre lui fut retiré.
